Philodendron 'Ring of Fire'

Philodendron 'Ring of Fire' is a highly sought-after tropical houseplant celebrated for its spectacular, ever-changing variegation. New leaves can emerge in fiery shades of orange, copper, red, or pink before gradually transitioning into combinations of yellow, cream, white, and multiple shades of green. With leaves at different stages of development at the same time, a mature plant can display an incredible rainbow of tropical color.

Adding to its dramatic appearance are the long, deeply serrated leaves that become increasingly impressive as the plant matures. 'Ring of Fire' is relatively slow-growing compared with many Philodendrons, but its extraordinary foliage makes it well worth the wait. Bright indirect light and vertical support as it develops help showcase its colorful foliage and encourage strong, upright growth.

Height: Up to 6–8 feet indoors at maturity
Spread: Up to 4–6 feet at maturity
Habit: Upright, Climbing
Exposure: Bright Indirect Light
Plant Type: Tropical Houseplant

Why You'll Love It:

  • Incredible Multicolor Foliage: Leaves can display shades of green, orange, red, pink, yellow, cream, and white.
  • Constantly Changing Color: New growth transforms as it matures, creating an ever-evolving display.
  • Dramatic Serrated Leaves: Long, deeply toothed foliage gives the plant a bold, almost flame-like appearance.
  • Collector Favorite: Its unusual variegation makes 'Ring of Fire' one of the most recognizable specialty Philodendrons.
  • Low-Maintenance Beauty: Despite its exotic appearance, it has relatively straightforward care requirements.

Whether showcased as a colorful statement plant or added to a collection of rare aroids, Philodendron 'Ring of Fire' delivers extraordinary foliage that becomes more impressive with every new leaf.

Philodendron 'Ring of Fire' Basic Care: Easy to Medium

Watering: Water when the top 1–2 inches of soil feel dry. Water thoroughly and allow excess moisture to drain away. Avoid keeping the soil constantly wet.

Light: Provide bright, indirect light to support healthy growth and vibrant variegation. Avoid harsh direct afternoon sunlight, which can scorch the lighter portions of the leaves.

Soil/Drainage: Use a chunky, well-draining tropical or aroid mix. Potting soil amended with orchid bark and perlite provides good drainage and airflow around the roots.

Temperature/Humidity: Prefers temperatures between 65–85°F and moderate to high humidity. It can adapt to average household humidity but appreciates additional humidity for lush growth.

Feeding: Feed every 4–6 weeks during spring and summer with a balanced liquid houseplant fertilizer diluted to half strength. Reduce feeding during fall and winter.

Repotting: Repot every 1–2 years or once the plant becomes rootbound. Because it is relatively slow-growing, avoid moving it into an unnecessarily large container.

Support: As the plant grows, a moss pole, stake, or other sturdy support can help keep it upright and showcase its dramatic foliage.

General Tips: Be patient with 'Ring of Fire'—it is naturally slower-growing, but each new leaf brings the possibility of completely different coloration. Like other Philodendrons, it contains calcium oxalate crystals and is toxic if ingested, so keep it out of reach of pets and small children.

Order & Shipping Info:

-Plants ship in a grower's pot, fully rooted.
-We ship every Monday and Tuesday (excluding holidays) to avoid weekend delays.
-Our photos show what you can expect, but each plant is unique and may look slightly different upon arrival.
-Minor damage during shipping is entirely normal and should be expected, especially in extreme summer or winter temperatures. Don’t worry—damaged foliage can be trimmed away and will not affect the plant's root system or overall health.
-Hold off on watering if the soil is still moist, and wait 2-4 weeks before repotting or fertilizing. This patience will help your plant adjust smoothly without going into shock.
