Oak Leaf Philodendron Basic Care: Easy to Medium

Watering: Water when the top 1–2 inches of soil feel dry. Water thoroughly and allow excess moisture to drain away. Avoid keeping the roots constantly wet or allowing the plant to sit in standing water.

Light: Thrives in medium to bright indirect light or dappled light. Avoid harsh direct afternoon sunlight, which can scorch the foliage.

Soil/Drainage: Use a chunky, well-draining tropical or aroid mix. Potting soil amended with orchid bark and perlite provides excellent drainage and airflow around the roots.

Temperature/Humidity: Prefers temperatures between 65–85°F with moderate to high humidity. It can adapt to average household humidity but appreciates additional humidity for lush growth.

Feeding: Feed every 4–6 weeks during spring and summer with a balanced liquid houseplant fertilizer diluted to half strength. Reduce feeding during fall and winter.

Repotting: Repot every 1–2 years or when the plant becomes rootbound. Choose a container only slightly larger than its current pot and make sure it has adequate drainage.

Support: Provide a moss pole, trellis, cedar plank, or similar vertical support. Letting the plant climb encourages larger leaves and helps it develop the increasingly lobed mature foliage the species is known for.
