Lewisia cotyledon ‘Sunset Strain’

Sunset Strain Lewisia is a colorful perennial prized for its evergreen, succulent rosettes and spectacular star-shaped blooms. From late spring through summer, blooms appear in a beautiful mixture of sunset-inspired shades, including apricot, orange, peach, salmon, pink, yellow, and white. Established plants may continue blooming or produce another flush of flowers into fall.

Thick, glossy green leaves form tidy basal rosettes that remain compact and attractive beneath the flowers. Native to western North America, this resilient perennial thrives in lean, sharply drained soils and is especially well suited for rock gardens, xeriscapes, retaining walls, alpine gardens, and containers.

Care & Growing Tips

Plant 'Sunset Strain' in full sun to partial shade and in lean, gritty, well-drained soil. Keep newly planted Lewisia moderately moist while it establishes and during active flowering, then allow the soil to dry somewhat between waterings. Avoid consistently wet soil, particularly during winter.

In hot climates, morning sun with some afternoon shade can help protect plants from excessive heat. Avoid heavy fertilization, as Lewisia performs best in relatively lean soil. Use containers with drainage holes and a gritty, fast-draining potting mix.

Growing Tip: Lewisia needs excellent drainage. Planting on a slope, among rocks, in crevices, or slightly elevated in gravelly soil helps prevent moisture from collecting around the crown.

Order & Shipping Info:

-Plants ship in a grower's pot, fully rooted.
-We ship every Monday and Tuesday (excluding holidays) to avoid weekend delays.
-Our photos show what you can expect, but each plant is unique and may look slightly different upon arrival.
-Minor damage during shipping is entirely normal and should be expected, especially in extreme summer or winter temperatures. Don’t worry—damaged foliage can be trimmed away and will not affect the plant's root system or overall health.
-Hold off on watering if the soil is still moist, and wait 2-4 weeks before repotting or fertilizing. This patience will help your plant adjust smoothly without going into shock.
