Philodendron 'Painted Lady'

Philodendron 'Painted Lady' is a highly sought-after tropical climber known for its spectacular mottled foliage and contrasting pink petioles. New leaves emerge in brilliant shades of yellow-green and chartreuse before developing a beautiful marbled pattern of deeper greens as they mature. No two leaves are exactly alike, creating an ever-changing display of color throughout the plant.

Adding even more personality are the distinctive pink to reddish-pink petioles, which provide a gorgeous contrast against the bright foliage. A natural climber, 'Painted Lady' thrives when given a moss pole, cedar plank, trellis, or other vertical support. As it climbs and matures, the plant can develop increasingly large, impressive leaves, making it a fantastic statement plant for bright indoor spaces.

  • Colorful Variegation: Leaves feature an incredible mottled mix of yellow, chartreuse, and multiple shades of green.
  • Pink Petioles: Rosy-pink stems create beautiful contrast against the colorful foliage.
  • Every Leaf Is Unique: Variegation changes as each new leaf emerges and matures.
  • Loves to Climb: A moss pole or other support encourages vigorous growth and larger foliage.
  • Collector Favorite: Its combination of unusual color, bold variegation, and climbing growth makes it a standout Philodendron.

Whether trained up a moss pole as a dramatic statement plant or added to a colorful aroid collection, Philodendron 'Painted Lady' delivers incredible foliage and tropical character that only becomes more impressive as it matures.

Philodendron 'Painted Lady' Basic Care: Easy to Medium

Watering: Let the soil dry out between waterings, then water thoroughly and let excess moisture drain away. Never allow the plant to sit in standing water.

Light: Provide plenty of bright, indirect light to encourage healthy growth and vibrant coloration. Avoid harsh direct afternoon sunlight, which can scorch the foliage.

Soil/Drainage: Use a loose, well-draining soil rich in organic matter. A chunky aroid mix containing orchid bark, perlite, and quality potting soil provides excellent drainage and airflow around the roots.

Temperature/Humidity: Prefers temperatures between 65–85°F and moderate to high humidity. It can adapt to average household humidity but appreciates additional humidity for lush growth.

Feeding: Feed every 4–6 weeks during spring and summer with a balanced liquid houseplant fertilizer diluted to half strength. Reduce feeding during fall and winter.

Repotting: Repot every 1–2 years or when the plant becomes rootbound. Always choose a container with adequate drainage.

Support: Provide a moss pole, cedar plank, trellis, or similar support for the plant to climb. Vertical support encourages stronger growth and can help the plant develop larger, more mature foliage.

General Tips: Give 'Painted Lady' plenty of bright filtered light and something sturdy to climb for the most impressive growth. Rotate the plant occasionally for balanced light exposure, and gently wipe the leaves as needed to keep its beautiful mottled variegation on full display.

Order & Shipping Info:

-We ship every Monday and Tuesday (excluding holidays) to avoid weekend delays.
-Our photos show what you can expect, but each plant is unique and may look slightly different upon arrival.
-Minor damage during shipping is entirely normal and should be expected, especially in extreme summer or winter temperatures. Don’t worry—damaged foliage can be trimmed away and will not affect the plant's root system or overall health.
-Hold off on watering if the soil is still moist, and wait 2-4 weeks before repotting or fertilizing. This patience will help your plant adjust smoothly without going into shock.
