Agave 'Porcupine' Basic Care: Easy

Watering: Allow the soil to dry completely between waterings. Water deeply, then let excess moisture drain away. Water sparingly during winter.

Light: Thrives in full sun outdoors or the brightest indoor location available. A south- or west-facing window is ideal for indoor plants.

Soil/Drainage: Plant in a fast-draining cactus or succulent mix amended with coarse sand, pumice, or perlite. Excellent drainage is essential to prevent root rot.

Temperature/Humidity: Prefers warm, dry conditions and tolerates temperatures down to approximately 10–15°F when grown in well-drained soil. Protect container-grown plants from prolonged freezing temperatures and excess winter moisture.

Feeding: Feed lightly once or twice during spring and summer with a diluted cactus or succulent fertilizer. Avoid excessive fertilization, which can weaken the plant's compact form.

Repotting: Repot only every 3–5 years, or when the plant has completely filled its container. Choose a pot with excellent drainage.

General Tips: This exceptionally slow-growing agave requires very little maintenance once established. Avoid overwatering, especially in cool weather, and handle carefully around the sharp terminal spine.
