Maranta leuconeura 'Kerchoveana' (Green Prayer Plant)
- Light: Low to medium light.
- Water: Likes evenly moist soil with elevated humidity.
Green prayer plant is a classic variety; it may have been grown by your grandmother! The green leaves have purple markings between the veins. It is called a prayer plant because when it gets dark the leaves fold up and then resume their horizontal positions when the sun (or lamplight) returns. This unique plant is accepting of most office lighting so it can be enjoyed whether or not you have a window. When you repot them in the spring don't pack the potting soil tightly around the roots because they like well-aerated soil.
