Eucalyptus cinerea

Silver Dollar Eucalyptus has aromatic, silvery blue-green foliage. It blooms clusters of white flowers

  • Light: The most important way to keep your Eucalyptus happy is to place it in a location with plenty of natural light.  A south facing window sill with nothing obstructing the sunlight is ideal.  West windows are typically work as well. Grow lights can be used to augment/supplement natural light.
  • Water: Avoid drastic changes in soil moisture.  Allow the soil surface to dry slightly before watering, but do not let the soil dry out completely.  If the pot has a drainage hole, water until water drains out the bottom. Do not allow the pot to set in water for extended period of time, as this will can lead to root rot and death. Overwatering is typically caused by watering too frequently, not too often.  Pots without drainage holes need to be careful when watering.
  • Soil: A well draining soil is vital to keep Eucalyptus roots healthy. We recommend Miracle Grow Indoor Potting Mix.  If you suspect you have a tendency to overwater your houseplants, consider adding 20% perlite to the mix to improve aeration.
  • Fertilizer: Eucalyptus will appreciate some extra food when they are actively growing in the spring and summer.  We recommend Jack’s Houseplant Special.  Apply at recommended rates 1 to 2 times a month.  During the winter reduce fertilizer to every other month.
  • Tip: Good light + thoughtful watering is 90% of the care needed for Eucalyptus.
