Dondo features tight rosettes of gray-green leaves that are broadest near the leaf tip. The rosettes grow up to 4 inches in diameter. The leaf tips are occasionally blushed red and have a small, soft spine. Flowers are bell-shaped, dark yellow to slightly orange, and rise above the foliage on several stalks from the center of the rosette in late winter into spring.
